Our Outdoor Adventure Programs take place March - October.

Intro to Archery (6-14Y)

Shooting an arrowLocation: McClendon Park East

Take aim at a new hobby! This class is designed for beginning archers to learn the basics and good techniques with a USA Archery certified instructor. Archery teaches respect for nature and builds confidence through practice. Bows and arrows are provided. This class meets at McClendon Park West. Pre-registration required.  Pre-registration required.

Intro to Fishing (3-16Y)

Ready to cast your bait and reel in the big fish, but not sure how or where to start? Join us for beginning fishing classes. We supply the equipment and bait! This class is for junior anglers ages 3-16. (16Y+ must have a valid Texas fishing license to fish in Mansfield Parks.) Pre-registration required.

$7/$9 per child. Save $2 with MAC membership.  Anglers over 16 years of age must have a valid Texas fishing license to fish in Mansfield parks.

Archery Alliance (6Y+)

Location: McClendon Park West

Become a skilled archer with this series of classes with a USA Archery certified instructor. The more practice you get, the more you can learn! All equipment provided. This class meets at McClendon Park West. Pre-registration required. Class meets 3/30, 4/27 and 5/25.

Intro to Camping and Hiking (7Y+)

Never been camping before? Families can learn how to set up a campsite, pitch a tent, build a campfire, and what to pack for your trip. We’ll also learn about Leave No Trace practices, as well as park safety rules. The trails are calling! Learn how to use a compass to navigate the park, what to do if you get lost, and basic first aid. Pre-registration required.

Junior Angler (6-16Y)

Junior Angler classes provide activities that introduce kids to the life-long sport of fishing.  Classes follow a hands-on format to teach basic fishing knowledge and skills, to promote ethical behavior regarding fishing and aquatic habitats, and to encourage junior anglers to get outdoors and go fishing! Pre-registration required.

$20/$22 per child. Save $2 with MAC membership.

Kayaking 101 (7Y+)

Location: Britton Park or Bowman Springs Park

Take a break from the hiking trails and get on the water! We will go out in dual-seated kayaks to explore our local lakes. Participants will enjoy a scenic paddle looking for wildlife and plants with a naturalist. We will also instruct on safety, proper techniques, and a ecofriendly approach to paddle sports. New this year: we offer kayaking tours at two locations! Each child ages 7-17 years must be accompanied by an adult on the tour. Preregistration required.

Puppies and Paddles

You love spending time with your dog and you love spending time on the water. Let’s do both! At Britton Park we’ll be launching you and your pup in sit on top kayaks for a 30 minute paddle. All size dogs (and their people) are welcome, but dogs must have their own lifejacket. We’ll provide lifejackets for dog moms and dads. Please be sure your dog can remain obedient and is comfortable in the water. Boats accommodate 1 adult and 1 dog.
