Our Outdoor Adventure Programs take place March - October.

Location: Britton Park

Take a break from the hiking trails and get on the water! We will go out in dual-seated kayaks along Mountain Creek, which feeds into Joe Pool Lake. Participants will enjoy a scenic paddle looking for wildlife and plants with a naturalist. We will also instruct on safety, proper techniques, and an eco-friendly approach to paddle sports. Each child ages 7-17 years must be accompanied by an adult on the tour. Pre-registration required. Register Now. $22/$24 per person.

Intro to Fishing

Ready to cast your bait and reel in the big fish this spring? Join us for beginning fishing classes. We supply equipment and bait! This class is designed for children ages 3‐16. Pre‐registration required. Register Now. $7/$9 per child.

Junior Angler

Junior Angler classes introduce youth ages 6 – 16 to the life-long sport of fishing. Classes follow a hands-on format to teach basic fishing knowledge and skills, to promote ethical behavior regarding fishing and aquatic habitats, and to encourage junior anglers to get outdoors and go fishing! Pre-registration required. Register Now $25/$27 per child

Anglers over 16 years of age must have a valid Texas fishing license to fish in Mansfield parks.

Family Camping Event

Location: Cedar Hill State Park

Spending time outdoors is fun, it's easier than you think! Don't have the gear? We do! The City of Mansfield is partnering with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department to offer a Texas Outdoor family workshop this fall. We provide what you need for a fun camping experience at Cedar Hill State Park. For this low cost, one-night workshop, each family (group of up to six people) gets a campsite with nearby restrooms and the use of equipment including: tent, cots for two adults, foam sleeping pads for children, lantern, camp stove, cooking pots/pans and utensils, and a coffee press. You will bring: bedding, personal items and food. We even provide camping recipes. Only one person per family of six need to registrar. Pre-registration required by Sept. 7th at 11 am. Register Now. Pets are not allowed on this camping trip.

$25 per family of up to 2 adults and up to 4 children

Fall Outdoor Adventure Classes

Become a tracker by identifying local species by their tracks and scat. Learn how these animals get around, how their feet differ, and what they eat. We’ll be making our own tracks and demonstrating how they would look in nature.

Never been camping before? No problem. Families can learn how to set up a campsite, how to pitch a tent, build a campfire, and what to pack for your trip. We’ll also learn about Leave No Trace practices as well as park safety rules. 

  • Camping 101 - Saturday, September 29th 9‐10:30 am (5Y+)

The trails are calling! We’ll learn how to read a topographical map and use a compass to navigate the park. Also learn what to pack, and some basic first aid.

  • Intro to Hiking - Saturday, October 13th 9‐10:30 am (7Y+)
