All classes are held rain or shine.  Please dress for the weather.  If inclement weather occurs, our staff will contact you directly the day of the program to inform you of a cancellation.

Evening by the Campfire (All Ages)

Location: Oliver Nature Park

Revel in a winter’s evening by a roaring fire where you can roast some marshmallows and relax. We’ll be making s’mores and listening to live music. Also, while enjoying the chilly evening, we will stargaze and listen to the stories behind the common constellations. Bring a camp or folding chair. This event takes place at Rose Park. Pre-registration required for all ages, including parents. $8/$10 per participant.

Great Backyard Bird Count (All Ages)

Join us at Oliver Nature Park to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count, a project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. Families will count the birds at Oliver Nature Park to contribute to the citizen-science project of collecting data on wild birds. Activities will include games, crafts, bird feeder making, live animals, and nature walks. Pre-registration is not required for this FREE program.  Registration not required.

Hike with a Naturalist

Location: Oliver Nature Park

Come enjoy Oliver Nature Park and learn about the wonders of nature on a guided hike with a Naturalist! Wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes. All participants over 2 years of age must pre-register. Each child/family must have at least one adult attending and registered for the program. We encourage nature walks for the whole family!  $8/$10 per person.

Junior Geologists

Visitors to Oliver Nature Park are often focused on the plants and animals that live there. But what lies beneath our feet when we visit? Join a naturalist for a geology-related lesson and a walk to explore the inorganic side of nature. Pre registration is required. $7/$9 per child

  • Fossil Finders (5-8Y) - Friday, December 28, 10-11 am - What are fossils, and how are they made? What fossils can we find at the park? - Register
  • Paleontology (9-14Y) – Friday, December 28, 11:30 am-12:30 pm - How are fossils formed, and what can they tell us about the history of the Earth? - Register

Painting at the Park (5Y+)

Join us for a painting class at Oliver Nature Park. An artist will guide you step-by-step as you create your masterpiece. This class is geared towards participants ages 5 and up, with no prior experience required! All materials will be supplied. Pre-registration required. $28/$30 per person.

Stargazing with Astronomers (All Ages)

Location: Oliver Nature Park

Come and explore the night skies with astronomers from the Fort Worth Astronomical Society. Learn about the constellations and planets as you examine the skies with high-powered telescopes. Registration is not required for this FREE program. Registration not required.

Winter Chemistry (5-14Y)

The days are getting shorter, and the weather is getting colder. No snow in Texas? No problem! Join us at Oliver Nature Park to make artificial snow and other fun winter chemistry experiments. Pre-registration is required.  $7/$9 per child.
