Winter Chemistry (5-14Y)

Science experimentLocation: Oliver Nature Park

The days are getting shorter, and the weather is getting colder. No snow in Texas? No problem! Join us at Oliver Nature Park to make artificial snow and other fun winter chemistry experiments. Pre-registration is required.

Evening by the Campfire (All Ages)

Revel in a winter’s evening by a roaring fire where you can roast some marshmallows and relax. We’ll be making s’mores and listening to live music. Also, while enjoying the chilly evening, we will stargaze and listen to the stories behind the common constellations. Bring a camp or folding chair. This event takes place at Rose Park. Pre-registration required for all ages, including parents. $8/$10 per participant.

Great Backyard Bird Count (All Ages)

Holding a duckJoin us at Oliver Nature Park to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count, a project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. Families will count the birds at Oliver Nature Park to contribute to the citizen-science project of collecting data on wild birds. Activities will include games, crafts, bird feeder making, live animals, and nature walks. Pre-registration is not required for this FREE program.  Registration not required.

Hike with a Naturalist (All Ages)

Come enjoy Oliver Nature Park and learn about the wonders of nature on a guided hike with a Naturalist! Wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes. All participants over 2 years of age must pre-register. Each child/family must have at least one adult attending and registered for the program. We encourage nature walks for the whole family!

$8/$10 per person.

Spring Chemistry Class (5-14Y)

The weather is getting warmer, and spring is in bloom. Join us at Oliver Nature Park to investigate the chemistry of spring. We will make colorful crystal gardens and other hands-on chemistry experiments. Pre-registration is required.

Painting at the Park (5Y+)

Painting at the Park artworkJoin us for a painting class at Oliver Nature Park. An artist will guide you step-by-step as you create your masterpiece. This class is geared towards participants ages 5 and up, with no prior experience required! All materials will be supplied. Pre-registration required.

Junior Geologist (5-14Y)

Visitors to Oliver Nature Park are often focused on the plants and animals that live there. But what lies beneath our feet when we visit? Join a naturalist for a geology-related lesson and a walk to explore the inorganic side of nature. Pre-registration required.

Fossil Finders (5-8Y)

What are fossils, and how are they made? What fossils can we find at the park?

Monarch Festival (All Ages)

Join us at Oliver Nature Park to celebrate the Monarch Butterfly. Activities will include games, crafts, nature walks, plant ID hikes, a butterfly release, and more. Pre-registration is not required for this FREE program.

Animal Science (5Y+)

Have you ever wondered how an animal’s adaptions help them survive, find their food, or make their home? Students will help create puzzles for our Wildlife Ambassadors to solve, test their sense of smell, and more! Pre-registration required.

Children’s Gardening (5Y+)

Join us for a children’s gardening class to learn about seeds, soil, and plant a seed to take home! Children will dissect seeds to learn about their inner structures and take a walk to our garden to look at the native sprouting plants. Pre-registration required.

Every action has a reaction, and what goes up must come down. Join us at Oliver Nature Park to investigate air and gas pressure through hands-on experiments and demonstrations!

Nature at Night (All Ages)

Join us for an exciting evening exploring nature at night. Activities will include games, crafts, owl pellet dissection, glow-in-the-dark geology, making s’mores by the campfire, live animals, storytellers, night hikes, and campfire songs. On our night hikes, we will identify sounds and sights of nature living in Oliver Nature Park! Pre-registration required for all ages, including parents. Children 1 year of age and under can attend free of charge with a paid adult.

Children’s Craft Day (All Ages)

Celebrate National Children’s Craft Day at ONP. Kids can spend time making a marble acorn necklace, a pine cone animal, and an animal track painting!
